Bruce will be teaching the lessons live online via zoom and will happen every Thursday in August at 1:00pm (PDT). You can paint along to the live lesson, or just watch and paint it later with the video recording. In the live session you can also ask Bruce questions and visit with other members of our art community in the chat.

We'll take our time with this dapper fellow, taught across two sessions. This will allow you to really grasp the key to making acrylic painting easy & accessible: the concept of working in layers!

"Devoted" or "Devotion" (Week 4)
Who doesn't love horses? Learn to capture the essential beauty and character of your equine friends, with the perfect balance of detail and emotion, as Bruce breaks the painting down into clear, approachable steps.

Everything You Need to Know Before Your Challenge
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY
While we've found that most of our students have painted before, you don't need any prior experience or training to be successful in the August Animals Challenge.
Bruce leads you step-by-step through the entire process to paint each of the lessons, so you don't need experience to be successful!
What will help you the most are a spirit of adventure, a sense of humor, and a commitment to finish every challenge.
Supplies
The lessons will be taught using acrylics paints. A basic assortment of colors and a few brushes is all you need to get going. Each lesson also comes with a complete Material Packet that has all of the photos and gridded photos that you'll need to complete your painting. See the picture below.

Meet Bruce
Bruce believes learning to paint should feel encouraging, understandable, and enjoyable with a lot of humor thrown in along the way.
He breaks complicated subjects into smaller, manageable parts and shows you how to move through each stage without becoming discouraged.
Rather than asking you to copy every brushstroke perfectly, Bruce teaches you how to observe, make decisions, correct what isn’t working, and allow your painting to develop naturally.
Whether you’re painting an animal for the first time or building on skills you already have, Bruce will guide you with patience, clarity, and the belief that you’re capable of more than you may realize.
Bruce has made his living as a fine artist and teacher for over 25 years. He shows his artwork in top galleries around the US.
Bruce and his wife Lee (who is a prominent glass artist), together run the Bruce on Art Acrylic Painting Academy. They live in sunny Arizon with their three dogs Michaelangelo, Modigliani, and Manet.
