WHAT YOU'LL LEARN...
✔ How to grid your canvas to transfer the image, the easiest way to start for a composition like this.
✔ It can be advantageous at times to start with the background instead of your subject - in this case, the green backdrop really allows us to see our fawn's form.
✔ To keep from getting overwhelmed, quickly block in the main shapes of the face using local color, then go back to fill in the details.
✔ Learn to use a wash to base in large forms, like the fawn's body, focusing on values, not details.
✔ Then build your fur slowly with layers of paint, using short, dry brushing strokes in the direction of growth.
✔ Learn how to "knock back" whole regions of your background, to push some areas into shadow and some into light.
✔ Use palette knife to add a painterly quality to the background, and add a sense of movement to the seet scene..
